Senator Nick McKim – Greens’ spokesperson for Immigration and Justice
Abdul Aziz Adam – Sudanese refugee detained on Manus for 5 years, and one of the leaders of the struggle for freedom on Manus (live via Skype)
Angelica Panopoulos – Refugee Action Collective
Refugees and asylum seekers have been trapped on the prison islands of Manus and Nauru for five years. Greens’ Senator Nick McKim recently said “Labor locked them up, and the Liberals threw away the key”.
The Coalition won’t even accept the NZ offer of 150 places per year. Bill Shorten claims Labor opposes indefinite detention, but won’t set time limits, admits he has no third country solution and won’t say “Bring Them Here”. This forum will discuss why we need processing in Australia rather than regionals deals, why other countries are reluctant to accept refugees who sought asylum in Australia in any case, and why we must urgently bring the refugees on Manus and Nauru to Australia for permanent resettlement.
