RALLY & SIT IN FOR MANUS REFUGEES
End the Siege -Bring Them Here
Friday from 5.30pm, State Library
Followed by march and street sit in
Dear refugee supporters;
Given the continuing crisis situation for refugees on Manus Island, Refugee Action Collective will be holding a weekly rally every Friday night as long as the siege continues, starting at the State Library, followed by a street sit in.
The Coalition goverment has refused to guarentee the saftey of refugees forced to Lorengau, and they are lying that the locations in Lornegau will provide sufficient food or health services.
Refugees have already been subject to numerous and ongoing robberies, bashings, and violent attacks in Lorengau, including with machetes and bush knives that have cut to the bone. Small numbers of refugees who have previously been forced to Lorengau have gone hungry without sufficient food or other necessities. Two have now walked the 30km back to the main camp. There will only be one GP clinic in business hours miles from two of the Lorengau locations (which are also still being constructed). Refugees will not able to get needed on-going medications or care at Lornegua., resulting in an extreme exacerbation of the existing mental health crisis.
Turnbull’s rejection of the NZ offer to resettle 150 people is yet a further indication that the US deal is just a fig leaf. Offshore processing is inherently cruel and unstable. The only real way to solve the crisis and provide long term solution for all on Manus and Nauru is to Bring Them Here.
