– Bring Them Here
Refugees on Manus have been given a notice saying that the Navy will reoccupy the detention centre on November 1. They have been told that every worker will leave the detention centre after Oct 31 and that electricity, water, food, drinking water will be cut off, and the fences removed. There is a real risk of violence against refugees, and Doctors for Refugees have warned of ‘catastrophic outcome’ if they are moved to Lorengau with inadequate medical care. There is no securityat two of the locations in Lorengau, and no food provided, refugees do not get enough money to buy food to live on there. Immigration Minister Dutton has also the 900 men on Manus Island they could ‘apply’ to go to Nauru, which would just move them from one prison to another.
We are urgently requesting human rights’ observers be sent to ensure that the refugees lives are not put in danger. Just as urgent is the need to bring all the refugees on Manus and Nauru to Australia, this would be a permanent solution.
