267 people – including 37 babies and more than 50 children – could be deported from Australia to the abusive detention camps on Manus Island and Nauru within days.

It’s a reprehensible new low for our nation.

In an incredible show of compassion and solidarity, yesterday churches around the country opened their doors as sanctuaries to protect these vulnerable people on the planet – people whom the government would send back to hell on earth.

This coming Monday night, thousands of Australians will rally in capital cities to stand for sanctuary, and demonstrate that Australia says welcome to refugees. We will do everything we can to keep these babies, children, men and women safe. Together, we’ll demand that the government let them stay.

In 2015, tens of thousands of you rallied to Light the Dark in cities and towns across Australia, in memory of Allan Kurdi and to demand the government do more in response to the global humanitarian crisis. Within days, Tony Abbott announced an extra 12,000 places in Australia for Syrian refugees. This is what people in their thousands hitting the streets calling for justice and demanding action can do.

Speakers to be announced.

Millions of desperate people forced to flee from war and persecution. The world is facing a global refugee crisis on a scale we’ve not seen since WWII, but Australia – our lucky country of a fair go for all – is not doing enough. We can do better to help these people.
We need to do better.

We will stand together in solidarity with people across the world who are forced to ask for protection from countries like ours. We’ll shine a light in the darkness, in protest of our country’s abandonment of the world’s most desperate people, who seek only safety and protection.

We will send a message to the world that our government’s inaction does not represent us, and that Australia says welcome.

Speaker announcements coming soon!
