8pm, Wednesday 6 October 2004
at The Forum Theatre, Flinders Street, Melbourne
produced by SKA-TV
Congratulations to
the refugee campaign on winning the CFMEU Golden Activism Award - and
thank you for your wonderful speech that touched, moved and inspired many
at the Activist Awards.

And the nominations
were:
- The 1997-2003
Jabiluka anti uranium mining campaign. A major victory when the
mine was filled in.
- Iratiwanti 1998-2004
anti nuclear waste dump campaign. Victorious in stopping the dump.
- Fairwair.
Continuing campaign against sweatshop wages and conditions for clothing
workers globally.
- The Anti War
movement, 2003 to present.
- The refugee
campaign for fair treatment of refugees and asylum seekers, 2001
to present.
And congratulations
to the whole SKA-TV team! I saw the crew's dinner wagon in Russell Street
when I arrived. I thought, "I bet it's been a long day for them..."
But they still looked fired up.
I was surprised to know they got it on Channel 31 in WA and I think Grant
Van Riessen of Perth put it best:
It was great
to see you on the TV! You accepted the award perfectly and I think you
made a lot of people, the beautiful people, as you called them in RACS
and in RRAN, glow. And probably cry. I have to move to Melbourne. I
want to live in a city that has an awards night for activists that celebrates
resisting arrest.
Yep. I reckon that
sez it best.
