Good news on Detention Debts!

The Migration Legislation (Abolishing Detention Debt) Bill 2009 was introduced in the Senate this morning.

We do not have a copy of the legislation yet but it seems all existing debts will be extinguished.

Unfortunately those who have paid will not be recompensed; that would be too much justice!

A media release and the Second Reading Speech will be on the Minister's website shortly, and other explanatory material on the APH website in due course.

The Bill will be debated in the Winter session (May-June).

Thank you to all who lobbied to end this iniquitous practice.
