Vigil at MITA detention centre: closethecamps and letthemstay
When: 6:30-9pm Friday 26th February
Where: MITA, 120-150 Camp Rd, Broadmeadows
Join with us in a candelight vigil at MITA (Broadmeadows detention centre). Stand in solidarity with the Lady Cilento Hospital workers, the unionists, the churches and the refugees here and on Manus and Nauru and send a clear message – #closethecamps and #letthemstay.
Many of the refugees threatened with return to Nauru and Manus are stuck inside MITA, and unless we can force a change of policy, will be removed from here back to offshore camps. Hear from those who can tell you first hand what happens to the humans locked inside, awaiting return, and hear what we can do about it. Details of speakers to be listed closer to the date.
This is an opportunity to meet others taking action to #letthemstay and #closethecamps, and speak about the next steps. Do you have questions you’ve always wanted to ask but hadn’t been confident in where to locate the information? We’ll talk over what an anti-deportation action looks like, and how we can increase our pressure on the government to stop the removals and end the detention regime.
