As part of World Refugee Day, pop-up protests will be occurring around the city to join the main protest at the City Square at 2pm. The Refugee Action Collective pop-up contingent will meet at 1pm at Liberal Party headquarters, 104 Exhibition St Melbourne to tell Tony Abbott that we want to say ‘nope, nope nope’ to his cruelty, and ‘yes, yes, yes’ to welcoming refugees. Most recently Abbott encouraged turning starving and dehydrated Rohingya refugees back to sea to face death, and the Australian Navy turned back a boat that subsequently hit a reef and sunk near an Indonesian island putting the lives of all onboard at risk. Abbott continues to champion a brutal offshore processing regime, that has produced sexual abuse of children and murder of asylum seekers, and continues to detain children for years. Abbott’s cruelty doesn’t stop with refugees, building a movement to stop his attacks on refugees is about building the kind of world we want for all of us.
We will demand: No Boat Turnbacks – No Offshore Processing – No Mandatory Detention. Let them Land, Let Them Stay, WELCOME REFUGEES.
