PROTEST: – Tell Mark Dreyfus – Welcome Refugees, scrap PNG deal
Friday July 26
8:00am until 10am
Senior Rudd government Attorney General Mark Dreyfus is providing the first address at the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law’s conference. Dreyfus’ actions on ‘human rights’ include launching with Rudd the new hard-right refugee
policy that removes the human right of asylum seekers arriving by boat to seek asylum in Australia, instead trafficked to hellish conditions on PNG’s Manus Island; and overseeing the arbitrary indefinite detention of 52 refugees designated by ASIO as ‘security threats’ without right of appeal. The new policy follows on from the ‘no advantage’ regime that the Castan Centre has criticised as ‘mutually incompatible’ with Australia’s human rights obligations. Since its introduction in August last year no asylum seeker’s claims for refugee status have been assessed.meet in the atrium, entrance to BMW edge theatreSpeakers from Tamil Refugee CouncilContact Lucy Honan 040472810
