Solidarity vigil for hunger strikers in Broadmeadows Detention Centre

Wednesday, January 18, 7pm. Melbourne Immigration Transit Accommodation, Camp Road, Broadmeadows.

There are currently two Iranian men on hunger strike in MITA detention centre. One of the men has been detained for 16 months, he has just received his second rejection, he has not eaten since last Monday. The other man was given refugee status 5 months ago but is still detained, he has not eaten since last Wednesday.

On Thursday night RAC activist Daniella went into MITA: she witnessed one of these men lying outside on the ground, he had been there for 2 days. He said “They treat me like animal so I am an animal”.

Solidarity with the refugees inside of MITA detention centre is desperately needed: we will be having a vigil action this Wednesday the 18th at 7pm.

The Broadmeadows detention centre is on Camp Rd in Broadmeadows. For public transport take the train to Broadmeadows train station and get on the 902 bus.
